Humans and anything human-related are detested by all monsters in the Monster Realm, which is why our protagonist, JUNIOR (115), the timid son of Frankenstein, is picked on at school because he's made of human body parts. In an attempt to win over his popular vampire crush and, in turn, the respect of his classmates, Junior creates a camera filter that allows vampires to be seen in photographs, only it backfires. The only way to fix the filter is with technology that's been banned in the Monster Realm for its uses in hunting monsters.
With the help of a witch, Junior travels to the Human Realm, Salem, Massachusetts, to be exact, where he's set on finding KASSIE (16), a strong-willed, bi-racial ghost hunter, in hopes that she'll have the right technology to help. Junior encounters the evil, monster-hating Halloween store security guard, ANTHONY PARRIS (30s) when he's thought to be stealing a Frankenstein costume from the store. Kassie saves Junior and is enthralled to finally meet a real monster. After some Halloween hijinx, Junior learns Kassie's life is a lot like his - she's made fun of at school for being the only kid of color. Frankenstein learns that his son has dangerously crossed over to the Human Realm and sets to find him before the portal to the Human Realm closes, and Junior is trapped. Anthony Parris encounters Frankenstein and rallies up his group of monster-hating security guards, The Salem Safeguards. Frankenstein finds Junior just in time for Parris and the Safeguards to use Frankenstein to attack the Halloween parade to show the people of Salem that monsters should not be celebrated. In a last-minute effort, Kassie saves Frankenstein, proving that not all Humans are bad. The clock is ticking, and Junior must get back to the Monster Realm before it's too late.
Junior witnesses the Safeguards cross into the Monster Realm; they've found a book of monster-hunting spells and plan on transporting all monsters to the Human Realm, where they will be destroyed. Junior tries to warn his classmates, but it's too late. Junior fights off Parris and the safeguards and manages to save the monster community that's always rejected him. A year later, Junior roams the school halls more confidently. He never got his vampire crush, but he did find love... love for himself.
